Firstly, the only thing worth buying is the evaporator (under dash unit). As you will be gassing it with 134a the original R12 condenser will not be efficient and will most likely be internally corroded anyway. The hoses too are not much good either except for getting approximate lengths to have new hoses made. Secondly, unless the compressor has just been pulled from a running car then your best to have it resealed especially if you are using the old 18R unit. Compressors that sit too long dry out their seals and after a short time will leak. Third, setting up air-con is expensive. Expect between $500 and $800. Trying to short-cut things will usually result in spending more money later. Trust me, I've done it and payed the price.
