why the hell are you sleeping them anyway?? If they are on a network they should not be set to sleep, if your worried about having the drives running all the time then you "could" use the engergy saver pref pane to tell the HD to sleep after say 15minutes but set the system to never sleep.
when the macs go to sleep all network interfaces are shut down anyway. I have set up lots and lots of Mac networks and when the macs have been set up CORRECTLY by someone who knows what they are doing the macs are FAR FAR more reliable than PC's. Dont forget there is no virus's or spyware for OS X either you can actually plug a mac straight onto the web, no firewalls, no anti-virus, just use firefox and you can browse all the porn you like and not have to worry about dialers or virus's or popups hassling you.
if you have the dmg file on the desktop on the mac that has a burner in it and its running OS X then just stick a blank cd in the machine and the blank cd icon will pop up on the desktop then just drag the dmg file to the cd icon that poped up and then drag the cd to the Dock where the trash icon was and it will look like a radioactive sign or sumthing you konw the black and gold sign and it will say Burn.
If your burning the dmg file from a PC just try to burn it as a ISO9660 cd, or if you've got XP on your PC just stick the Cd in the machine and drag the dmg file to the cd drive and hit the burn files to cd button on the left of the window, this will work fine on the macs
oh and for the record macs can read and write most filesystem formats including UFS and FAT32 in addtion to the mac HFS and HFS+. OS X can also READ ONLY NTFS.
good luck
