Nah the 4A-GE actually runs a proper variable resistor type TPs, rather than a simple switch type. It uses this in conjustion with the MAP sensor.
I can't see how it could run without any type of TPS, have a look at it if you can, check out the ECU, the throttle body & the wiring.
See if anything else has been changed. Find out how it runs too.
