If you're really concerned - use some kind of dial-out measuring thingo to get an exact measurement then ask the people who hi-flowed the turbo what the shaft play should be given it's usage/life-since-rebuild.

you mean the "reaching in and pulling out your spinal cord" kind of screech?

yup - it's kind of like a fuken loud dentist's drill under the bonnet
how do i know this? because my old turbo would let the compressor wheel sometimes touch the compressor housing... with my old draw-thru carbi setup , if i rev'd it too high with the choke on full, the suction it created in the chamber between turbo and carbi would pull the wheel forward.
first time you hear it, you know you've just commited yourself to spending a whole wack of cash on a new turbo.
