Maybe some of the wires are getting a bit old too? This sort of thing would happen on the celica xx sometimes when it was trying to start. Power would just die in the arse until I jiggled some cables. Replaced the wire with overkill 8 gauge wire and it works like a dream now 
Of course in this case, you just aren't getting spark. Is the coil getting power?
