There are only two types of HID kits you should concern yourself with... the ones that are legal and the ones that aren't.
The legal ones have a self levelling system for the beam and all the ones I have seen with this feature are supplied as car specific kits.
The not so road legal units are all the ones that look just like a standard halogen bulb but come with invertors / ignitors etc.
The not so legal units vary in quality greatly, however, unless you are going to use them on your show car its not worth explaining the difference.
