hows it go other than the pinging?
I am havng a shot in the dark, but have you had the compression check?
the bigport head is from a 1.6, th 7AFE is 1.8, from what i know, id guess it would be pretty high compression?
especially with hi-comp pistons.
i know that in the older motors, ie k motors, a common mod is to put a 3k 1200 head on a 4k 1300 to give it more compression, and it isnt uncommon for these engines to ping in the lower revs under heavy throttle.
