I can tell you what I know? I 3sge engine was in the celica sx from 1986 - 1989. You will also find this engine in the mr2 from 1991 - 199?. The Bathurst models mr2's had the 3sgte (turbo) engine as well as the gt4 celicas from 1986 - 1989.
There are three different generation 3sge engines. Each generation came out with a little more power and slight changes.
Just do some searchs in yahoo or google for "3sge" and "3sgte" and I am sure you will be keeped busy with the amount of information you will find!
By the way these engines are what I feel to be one of the best engines toyota has produced with huge amounts of potential.
