im open to being PROVED wrong here, but after being defected nearly 30 times, i kinda know whats ok and what isn't. but then again it all depends on the cop.

as with the cannon mufflers and other 'straight through' mufflers, they are only illegal if:
a)they are over 90db
AND/OR
b)the emissions are above a certain level (not too sure what the level is) usually due to them not passing through a cat etc.
basically cops dont know what the F&^K there talking about. there just told "if theres anything shiny, defect it". i had a cop once try to explain to me how a turbo works, and it went a little something like this- "the exhaust gas spins the turbine, flows out the blow off valve and into the exhaust, turbine spins the compressor, then the compressed air flows out the wastegate into the atmosphere". then when i asked how the compressed air got into my engine to make boost (i act real dumb to start off with ) he just looked at me like a stunned mullet and say 'through the blow off valve'.
