yes, a weld will either hold or break, what differs is the force it take to break the weld, so, technically, although there is no "in between" no two diffs are the same.

if the weld completely covers the spider gears and properly locks them, then yes, this will be strong, however,

if the person your getting to do it only does a weld slightly bigger than a tac weld, no shit its going to take less force to break.

just remember, this whole drive train is as strong as its weakest part,

meaning, usually this is the axles before the weld,

even the "EXPLICT" WRX snapped an axle at drag combat recently here in Perth.

although that is 4wd..

the end result was, even a car with that much money spent on it can break, badly.
