Before he started caring about what HE wanted, things were much better for everyone else. This is part of the movie that I think needed more length to (or better acting). If you think about it, there are lots of places where there was an internal struggle inside Anakin - to switch to the dark side mainly, but then after making the decision to actually go through with it and kill all the younglings. The actor (whatshisname) didn't portray the internal struggle that he was having during the middle of the movie, there should've been a lot more close up facial shots of him regretting what he has done, or have to do, etc. Was too much like a lightbulb, he was good, switch. now bad and go kill younglings.
