For a Celica it would definetly be easier to use a motor from another generation of Celica. Although the block is the same in the MR2, a lot of the brackets and accessories are in different spots which aren't Celica friendly. If you're thinking of doing a RWD conversion into your 'rona then you may be able to pull it off by swapping bits from the old 2S? Here's what I figured out when researching my swap: 3S-GE Gen I ST162 (ADM + JDM) 3S-GE Gen II ST182 GTR (JDM) ST183 Conv. (JDM) SW20 MR2 (1990 - 1994) (JDM + ADM) 3S-GE Gen III ST202 SS-II & SS-III (1994 -1997) (JDM) SW20 MR2 (1994 - 1999) (JDM + ADM) S?190 Caldina TZ-G AWD (1995 - ?) (JDM) I'm a little grey on anything newer than Gen III... 3S-GE Gen VI ST202 SS-II & SS-III (1997 +) SW20 MR2 GT? (1997 + ?) 3S-GE Gen V Lexus RS200 (RWD only) Prices vary from place to place depending on what they include in the package. A lot of places will quote you for just the engine over the phone unless you specifically ask if it includes loom and computer. Anything other than a Gen I will require you to buy a loom and ECU if buying separately from the half cut. An alternative to a half cut you might come across is an 'engine kit'. These kits are esentially everything you need from the halfcut sans the actual half cut - very convenient! As for prices, call around and see what you can find. Try the forum sponsors as they're most likely pretty switched on when it comes to Toyotas. A lot of importers I rang didn't know what a 3SGE Gen III or ST202 was . Also try specialist Toyota importers such as Toyospares etc. Depending on who you call, Gen I - $1000ish Gen II - $750ish Gen III - $1300ish Add roughly $250 for loom and ECU. In regards to a swap into a Celica, gearboxes vary depending on which one you choose, but keep in mind that a Gen I FWD gearbox is pretty much useless besides on the back of another Gen I - all the newer models use a slightly larger flywheel and require different starter motor placement. Hope this sheds some light on the situation. Let us know if anything I've said is incorrect.
