i was thinking the same thing bout the bar\plate tube\fin difference
on my turbo car of pretty big capacity (almost a 3 litre 4 cylinder) - im running an aftermarket bar\plate 450x300x79 core (garret core i think) but have yet to trial it so i cant comment
generally - thicker is better than wider - ie. a 90mm core will cool better than a 79mm core of the same width and height. Efficiency is the key in my opinion
