USB/MP3 player malfunction

Hey guys/girls
i have a USB memory stick that plays mp3's
the other day i put it in to load songs onto it, whilst loading a few songs that would take around 3mins, i pressed play on the USB and after windows came up with a dialog saying that my USB has malfunctioned.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
It says replace the USB to fix it, is this really the only way?
Whenever i put that USB into my computer, it doesnt recognise it, but if i put my other USB in it does.
Any help appreciated
