I'd say rain would be ok but driving thru puddles might cause you greif.
just remember that water is harder to compress than air so if the engine sucks in water it could totally stuff the internals of your engine.
I suppose you'd have to weigh up the risk of a new engine compared to gaining a few hories which could also be gained with a better design.
Not to meantion the attension you'll get from police with a fu@k off air pod that they can defect you for even without popping the bonnet.
