I've seen it done plenty of times, and even been guily of doing it to my own car, once. It does tend to cop water, dirt, etc. a lot, guess it's partly a matter of where you tend to drive. It's always important to not have big shiny silly looking lampshade filters obvious to your local constable - they often don't share the passion...
