Fuel lines 2 returns?

MA70 supra, one pressure line for sure going in, and wired up by Pirtek today to the 4L. There are two lines that are very similar (size & both have hose clamps instead of high pressure lines). The guys there said there may be either two return lines (I don't know why) and then one of them thought it was a carbon something or another, something to do with vapourlock or the fuel tank giving out gasses when the pressure gets too high and this thing cleans it. Supposedly it should be attached to a little black cylinder about the size of a coke can. The hose looks like it could connect to something on my heater switch (on the firewall next to brake junction box).
Looks very standard, and looks like it came with the car.
What is it?
fyi: I took my car to pirtek on trailer and the 2 guys there worked for about 3 hours on it (were mucking round a lot of the time, or at least joking around), only charged me for 2 hours labour (@ $60 an hour!) and the lines they gave me were absolutely top notch. Lines were 2 oil lines to remote oil filter, and the pressure fuel hose. Also did a connector on my clutch hydrolic line. Came to a total of just over $330. Which is resonable I thought.
