gold is that pepper in your mash, or rust spots . You are perfectly sane what a good way of getting out of eating your mash. Personally if we have mash at my place i mash it cos no one else in the house makes it as creamy as me i can't stand lumpy mash.

try puttign it thru a strainer thats usually used for powders
