not exactly.
the noise comes from sound waves bouncing around in the intake tract... when a wave hits the end of the pipe that is open to air, it generates a wave outside as well (just your usual open-end pipe theory) unless you do something to chop up these waves first (stock way is to have changing size and shape box to dampen any standing waves) it will be louder.

if you are tuning the intake also (the quads i mean) when you generate a standing wave, you generally increase the amplitude of the sound also... but thats a nice sound Wink
