Yeah wheel bearing would be my first suspect, CV's second.
I have had the heeby geeby's with those two items with subaru's, which are notorious for going thru CV's.
Once there was a nasty rumbling noise that we could never ever find the source of, we changed all CV's checked/replaced wheel bearings and the noise persisted. Got so anoying that we decided lets cut open every one of those wheel bearings to take a closer look, and finally we found the cultprit, the outer shell of the wheel bearing has some very unsual wear marks, and only occasionally would it create this rumbling noise. Anyway we fixed that and the following week another CV whent.
Must of put that same offending wheel bearing back in, instead of a new one when we changed the wheel bearings that day.
