engine conversion question

Now i went and had a look at this 89 cs corolla the other day and it had a 1.4L carby engine in it. Little more research uncovered its a 3afc which i had never heard of before so just wanted to know if they are part of the 4a interchangable family as i would like to put a 4age(smallport) in it but dont think it would be a straight swap. Does anyone know if it is or not????
