I have an article regarding the installation of a Windsor V8 and Toploader box into a RA23 - they state only minor "massaging" was needed. The R154 is a wider box than the toploader, but not overly so. The MA61 has a larger trans tunnel than the RA23 (just!), so fitment shouldn't be that difficult. Having said that, if you are picky about installation like me, replace the trans tunnel with something bigger.
Also don't expect to change gears super quick if you go the toploader route, especially if you are right handed - they use two detent clips that are quite stiff when replaced while the box is out of the car (cos they're a prick to do out of the car, and impossible to do in the car!).
I stand corrected on the clutch interchangability between W and R series gearboxes - they both have 21 spline input shafts. For some reason, I thought the R154 had a 23 spline input shaft, but I was wrong - thanks for the "heads up" to whoever got me checking!
