Sorry for some misinformation. I just checked the blacktop manual to see if its ECU has a camshaft position sensor input (needed for VVTi) and it hasn't so it must be just VVT not VVTi as I earlier stated.
BTW, my silvertop activated the VVT on the basis of throttle position only (once the engine was warm). The LED would even flash briefly when you blip the throttle during downshifts (although I don't know if the mechanism would actually be able to advance the camshaft and back again for such a short time).
