So long as things aren't rusted tight, you should be able to just back the bolts off and give the housing a little bit of a twist no problem. If things are a bit stiff, you'll need to involve other methods (e.g. WD40, removing bolts, nice gentle tapping, etc.) If you're not confident of accidently damaging nothing, then it's a lot cheaper to con someone who's done it before to come have a look than to bend something - although you have to be pretty clumsy to do damage.
