My dad used to work for BMW in Melbourne in the 60's to the 70's
You know what happened to the first 7 series they shipped hear for testing? During the heat test, basically leaving the car on an open skid pan in the baking summer sun with the engine running and sensors etc. Well the insulation around the exhaust melted and dripped onto the exhaust which caught fire and burned the car to the ground, so it was stuck back in its crate and shipped off to head office in Germany with a little note, "Needs some more work"
Other problems were tiny radiators which boiled pretty much straight away, and Euro spec becker and blaupunkt radios which were tuned to narrow bands but failed to hold stations as Australia having wider bands less radio stations and much bigger distances between transmisson towers. Those radios were the main cause for warranty replacements though.
