People have put 1G engines into lots of things. An older Celica isn't a bad idea, but if it was me I'd go for the last of the RWD Celica's, ie the RA65. This has the advantage of having a slightly larger engine bay (1G fits easily), it has a gearbox that will bolt right up to a 1G with the appropriate bellhousing, and it has IRS with a pretty strong diff in it (7.5" F series) with LSD centres easily available too. It also has an EFI fuel system ready to go. These are all important considerations when doing an engine conversion, the less upgrading/custom fabrication you have to do the better!
