When I did my 1GGTE conversion into the 28 the first standard diff lasted a whole of 2 months... The second one lasted 2 years. Lucky maybe... but they can hold up to the power quite fine as long as you treat them nicely.
As for spinning one wheel constantly, that depends on how heavy your foot is. The open centre rarley broke out on me with 160+ rwkw...
