Fri, 22 July 2005 03:10 Hard for me to explain cause my knowledge is crap, but if the bottom number is '4' then you are working with 'crotchets'. And the top number is then how many 'crotchets' you have per bar of music. So 3/4 timing is 3 crotchets per bar, 4/4 is 4 per bar etc. 7/8 timing is 7 half-crotchets per bar (is half-crotchet the right word? I can't even f****ng remember). And there is more than just 1 1/2 etc. For example a crotchet with a dot after it is like 1/4 + 1/8. (the dot means add an extra half of the original notes length). [Report message to a moderator]
