Get a set of feeler guagues, and measure the clearance between each shim and the base of the cam lobe(not the point end). These are pretty general toyota specs, and the 20 valve could be different. But anyway:

The intake cam clearances should be within 0.15mm-0.25mm
and exuast clearances should be within 0.20mm-0.30mm

now after you have gathered your results and most likely found some out of spec clearances, you can use this formula to find out the correct thickness shim to replace the worn one.

T=Thickness of shim used
A=Valve clearance measured
N=Thickness of shim new

Intake side: N=T +[A-0.20mm]
Exuast side: N=T +[A=0.25mm]

Then head of to toyora and order the shims. (fuggen rip by the way)
