Re: alternator questions

So AE92 sx corolla's don't have a warning light as well as a gauge?
A volt meter measures the voltage of the battery and has no effect on wether the alternator will charge or not. The volt meter is connected generally to an ignition supply and the only connection they have with the alternator is from the alternators main battery connection.
I have never seen an alternator with a special terminal for a volt meter.
The way the warning light works is as follows.
Power goes through the warning light to the warning light terminal on the alternator. When the alternator is not charging (before you start the engine) it provides an earth to turn on the warning light. When you start your car and the alternator starts to spin, it uses the power from the warning light to start the alternator charging. When it starts charging it puts power back up the warning light wire to the warning light which turns the light off.
Kdogg: does the warning light come on before you start the engine? If not check your fuses.
