Some vents/scoops have a rain catch that you can stick on when it rains...
Also, to shield the air filter from the rest of the engine bay, don't worry about aluminium and shit like that. Go down to Clark Rubber and buy some fire/oil/petrol resistant heat shielding...
It cost me about $15 and worked a shitload better than the aluminium thing that I was working on.... And no scratched paint either!
