I'd say you'd be pretty correct with the fwd offset thing. I bought some rims for a celica of mine and they were fwd offset, requiring 25mm!!! spacers to fit them on. However i put them on my standard XT130 Corona and all i needed was 5mm spacer and they were perfect. So i'd say mucking around with the fwd disks and 4wd calipers, you'd be looking at a very fwd-oriented setup.
