Well this thread is getting a workout. I just came back from my 4400km journey back from South Carolina. It's a long drive to get back to Calgary, Alberta, Canada from there. But the drive was fine with the new car. Some were quite funny. Anyhow I'll try to make sense of it all. The 1UZ is out. The 1JZ is out. The 1GT is a maybe The 7MGTE is a maybe Modding the 22RE is a last resort. So that basically leaves the Canadian 7MGTE or the JDM 1GT. I'll be checking out price on the 7MGTE here in the next few days when I have time and compare it to what a 1/2 cut or conversion package shipped from AUS might cost. Either choice would be fine in stock form for me. With the potential for added stuff later. Now that I have the car I can do measurements and what not while it's in front of me. I know it has the W58 gearbox. Am I correct in saying that this is the one used in the Supra as well? I had an earlier Celica (1981 with 22R) it had a W55(?) if I remember right. Here's a picture of that old car. http://www.celicas.org/members/tonyleblanc/scan0.j pg I had a supercharged 22R in that and then I put a 18RG in it. So from what I read the 1G will bolt to the W58? I hope so. I'll read up on it again. I'll also check to see if the 7MGTE does as well. I know that the extra weight of the 7M might be a small factor in the Celica and some say to just buy a Supra. As you might know I want to stick with the Celica as it's 1 of 2000(?) I think. Fully loaded with IRS, 4wheel disc, power top, pw, pl, a/c, cruise, etc.. It seems to have all the Supra goodies minus the 6cyl. The car does seem to be heavier. I will weigh it soon and see what the ratio is. I'm hoping that some of the extra weight is at the back. That way the extra weight I might put in the front will be an advantage. I know the car will not be the lightest Celica but I'll offset it with a few more HP. I think that's all the questions I have for now. I'll have some new pics up soon as well. The side skirts are factory so they should have a part number for them.
