4AGE missing when throttle very slightly open.	Fri, 12 August 2005 09:24

Hi All, Has anyone had the problem with a 4AGE where you are cruising along nicely with almost no throttle at all but as you just open up to accelerate, the engine seems to stutter then comes on really strong after the revs are up ? It's like it's getting too much air on slight throttle but open it further and it goes better. I can't decide whether it is fuel or ignition and the fuel filter should be OK as it goes well at high revs. I've adjusted the TPS pretty precisely to the manual specs. I'm thinking it may be an injector issue (although they were cleaned less than 500kms ago)as it seems to lean off according to the O2 sensor and when I have the 8k resistor across the air temp sensor to richen the mixture, the problem seems less but it may be being masked by the engine performing a bit stronger. It's not the hunting of the TPS that you get when it's out of adjustment - I can induce that and rectify it pretty easily. No ECU error code which is why I'm thinking something at the end of the EFI chain like injector feed or spark. If it's spark that's missing I'd expect the mixture to richen up during the problem as there would be unburned fuel going through. Apologies for the long winded info but it would be great if someone else has had a similar problem ... and fixed it. Thanks. [Report message to a moderator]
