How do they join... i mean, are the mating sufaces flat, or somthing else like a passage for exst gas to move into a chamber in the inlet mainfold?

they have a flat mating surface with a heat chamber inside, I belive this chamber has to do with the auto choke, theres a tube that runs down from the choke into and out of this chamber and then into the manifold I think. So the chamber heats up and I guess in turn heats the air in the tube and alters the amount of presure in the tube and changes the choke position. However if you have extractors as in my car this tube simply hangs below the manifold doing nothing.
