My farm ute rego is due on September 25 each year, but I never remember to renew it (it doesn't go on the road all that often ). I have lost track of the number of times I have been to the motor registry on Christmas eve (ie, Sept 25 + 3 months) to get it renewed before it lapses completely. The RTA always sends a reminder letter sometime after Sept 25 which very clearly spells out the 3 month period, among other things. As to wagonists question, I think it would be bloody rude of the RTA to start charging annual fees in such circumstances (although that may not necessarily stop them ), as you entered a contract on the basis of no fees. Allowing that contract to lapse would enable them to change the conditions upon renewal, which others above pointed out seems to be the case. [Report message to a moderator]
