 the evo engine my GSR eventually got was tops, but the GSR 1.8's were a little too fragile for me 
The time i cooked the oil, i got where i was going, and pulled over, as soon as the revs dropped to idle, the oil light came on, which was a bit odd... as long as i kept the revs up a bit it was fine, so i kept it at 2K for a couple of minutes to let the turbo cool down a bit, turned it off.. and there was lovely gurgling noises from the sump once it cooled down the oil pressure was fine again, about 3 days latter it started getting this knock... 
the air temp was pretty cool, but the gsr only runs a water:oil cooler, which is a bit marginal..
