from memory, an internal regulated alternator needs:
charge-light wire (yellow wire coming from fuse box to alt in an RA40)
batt+ (big white wire connects to big-arse terminal)
ign+ (black-yellow wire, get's power when key is at ign position)
without the bottom two the charge light wont go out
permanent power is to charge the battery or drive the electrical system when you foolishly remove the battery while the car is running
so the ing+ is probably to excite the alt, when runnin the built-in regulator then provides the 12V bias to extinguish the alt light.
