Fri, 31 January 2003 13:01 THE LAW states : Minor changes to wheels Wheels up to 26mm wider than the largest optional wheel recommended by the vehicle manufacturer for the vehicle can be fitted without the need to notify the RTA. The outside diameter of the wheel and tyre combination must be no more than 15mm over the largest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle and not more than 15mm below the smallest diameter wheel and tyre combination specified for the vehicle. You can fit whatever DIAMETER wheel you like as long as you remain within the confines of the max & min overall diameter of the wheel and tyre combination by increasing / decreasing the profile of the tyre. There is NO mention whatsoever in "THE LAW" of a limit in the diameter of the rim, and the quote above is the only mention of diameter - go and read the link you were given above FULLY to satisfy yourself that this is the case. Fill out the back of the fine and opt to go to Court you WILL win by simply printing off the link you were given above!!! While you're at the Court politely inform the copper that Tempe Tyres (or whatever tyre shop comes to mind) have good deals going on 19's or even 20's for his SS . As far as air filters go. Pod filters CAN be used legally as long as an engineer will approve them. The criteria used by engineers are - 1.) Passes emissions test 2.) Passes induction noise test. There is a limit to the amount of induction noise your engine can emit and this can obviously increase when fitted with a pod filter. Depending on which engineer you speak to (i.e. how relaxed they are about it) you could be required to perform a drive by test to determine the level of induction noise. One engineer I spoke to said they wouldn't pass it with a pod filter unless I hired a race track for them to properly perform induction noise testing. The engineer I ended up using concluded that the induction noise was minimal anyway and was being muffled by the AFM so he was quite happy to pass it without testing.
