Well I did an oil change today, turfed out the watery thin 10w-40 Mobil Synth S that was overdue for a change, and chucked some nice thick Penrite HPM 3 20w-60 in there. From my short test drive (it was dark so kinda hard to see anyway), it didnt seem to be smoking. I will check again tomorrow.

My theory: maybe the previous oil was too thin, plus the fact that it was getting old, and so it was breaking down under heat, and burning up? Does this sound right? Christ, if that's all it is I'll be happy!

I'll report back tomorrow.
