Mon, 22 August 2005 13:18 Automotive electronics should be able to operate up to 125 deg C, and have a maximum storage temperature somewhere about there too. Depending on how badly you overheated it, it probably didnt get too much over 100 deg C so the alternator should be fine from that respect. When the problem occurs you need to be able to measure the battery voltage in order to eliminate the alternator. Do you have a multimeter? You can buy cheap ones from most hardware stores. When the alternator and regulator are operating correctly the battery voltage should read around 14V to 14.4V anywhere usually from just above idle upwards. Significantly higher or lower and you have problems. I have seen 35V+ on a Telstar with a stuffed regulator to give you an idea of what I mean.
