It won't say anywhere on the box that it is a W55.

W55, W57, W58 (without the steel sandwich plate) are (as far as I know Smile) not possible to tell apart by visual inspection!

The best way is to count input:output revolutions to calculate the ratios.

There really isn't that much difference in the ratios in my opinion...perhaps it just has much better shifter bushes in it (this does make a large difference to the shift feel)?

Also another thing you could check is that if it appears that the rear extension housing has been removed (off your new box) in the past that may imply that the gearbox is not from a SA63, as SA63 celicas are the only one that I am aware of that have that shifter position. It would stand to reason then if a W57 or W58 has been swapped in that the swapee would/should have swapped the old SA63 postion onto it, which requires removing the rear extension housing off the gearbox. Smile

Cheers
Wilbo
