i belive the celica is probably better option. has a good sleek style to it, and with basic mods it performs quite well. fuel wise get about 400 - 500k's out of a full tank. cost's about 40 - 50 bucks to fill up completely.
repair wise. well i've just fucked my engine and its cost me about 800 - 900 to fix (technically buy a new one). not really sure witch one will perform better out of the 2, i think the corrolla goes harder i'm not sure.
also with the celica check what kind of engine it has in it. 3S-GE or 3S-FE. 3s-ge revs higher and goes alot harder then the 3S-FE witch is more of an economy engine rather then performance.
other things to watch out for with the celica when you buy it is....
* syncro rings in gear box's (second and fourth i think) wear easyily, and will leave you with a nice *CRUNCH* when you change gears
*rust around the sun roof i've heard can sometimes be a problem (mine is ok but)
* power steering pump i think is often a known source of a good oil leek (mine has this problem)
rego wise. i'm pretty sure you have to throw in an extra 200 bucks i think for rego/insurance due to the fact its considered a 2 door coupe/sports car.
i really have no idea about the corolla but theres some stuff to think about with the celica. personally i love my celica just the style and look and feel of it make it to be a really nice car
i paid $3500 for mine and it had done 178,000k's, extrators, exhaust, resprayed (a month before i bought it) new clutch, etc
and if you save up your pennies long enough with your celica you could eventually drop a 3S-GTE in it (turbo) witch will cost about 3000 - 5000, but i've been told its pretty easy and really worth it.
but its all up to you and what you wanna do with YOUR car
