ok man, 2 things I see wrong with using that manifold.

1 - Displacement. There are formulas used to work out the optimum plenum chamber size. 0.8 - 1.5 times engine displacement for 3 - 6 cylinder engines (Forced Induction Performance Tuning).

2 - Runners. There are also formulas to work out optimum lengths and diameters. Runner diameter "fixes" peak horsepower at a certain rpm. Runner length "rocks" the power curve around this peak hp rpm. Long runners = more bottom end, less top end. Short runners obviously do the opposite.

There are also considerations regarding properly shaped runner entries (i.e. meant to be bellmouthed). Also, the plenum is meant to abruptly open up to a much large area directly after the throttle. This slows the air, and stops air from rushing over the runner entry closest to the throttle and starving the first cylinder.

Additionally, roots type blowers cause a pulsing air flow which can be a problem. To combat this, a much larger plenum is used (2 to 3 times engine cc).

As to why Toyota chose to use this manifold. I recall that the part of the manifold you are using is only one section of a pretty complex setup. Toyota would have gained extra plenum chamber displacement through the parts that you have discarded in changing to a turbo.
