KE70MAN wrote on Sat, 17 September 2005 14:16 | firstly, what does everyone suggest as a cam profile, and with what company( i was thinking tighe cams) tighe cams have 2 that i have in mind. one is the Tighe 113, and the other is the Tighe 104. Now on their site its says valves wil need to be replaced with anything over 0.400. the 104 profile has 0.423. so i dont want to have to change springs.
this regrind i think costs about $80-90
secondly, for a 3k head, what shuld i be looking for? the bigport one? not so sure on what wil be best. i wil probably also get it ported, anyone know wat that wuld cost? also, cus ill be putting the 3k head on the 4k block, it ups the compression to 10:1, so what gasket do u guys recommend(and cost)? and shuld i get the hed shaved or anything?
next is extractors. ill probably get some custom made ones from my exhaust shop. in mild steel tho cus i wont have the car for years on end, so a bit of rust dusnt bother me. shuld i get them made 4-1 or 4-2-1? and what diameter of tubing is recomended? and wat wuld this roughly cost? for exhaust system, ill probably have 2inch madrel mild steel, with a hotdog (or 2) and cannon. cost on the exhaust?
lastly for the carby. i have read of people usuing the gemini nikki carby on the 4k. almost bolt on job. anyone have pros or cons for these?
love to hear your answers.
thanx crew

it has been asked and answered a thousand times, but i'll answer your specifics
gemini carby? you want around 22-24mm primary choke. the 26mm int he webber 32/36 is too big imho. early euro webber work ok. mine was from 1974 fiat 124 i think.
where do you want your powerband?? i had and liked the Camtech 609 regrind. 0.435 lift, 275/285, 231/235@50thou lift.
springs, CB4/CB4A from www.performancesprings.com.au about $100 plus del maybe. change your springs, otherwise you will be limited to 6500-7000rpm by valve float.
3K head. the bigport just has 30mm intake ports, vs 27mm intake ports. if you are using a downdrauhgt stock manifold, the ports go down to like 25mm in section i think, and i don't think a BP is necessary. heaps of exhaust porting will free up the head.. maybe 1.5-2mm on the sides and roof of the port, and nothing on the floor, just radius the exit near the valve.
combustion chamber, i would suggest to look at my page. deshroud the valves as much as possible, clean it all up, and then get it shaved to a certain compression. with camtech 609, i would suggest 10.5:1.
head gasket, i would only use ACL monotorque. BD950MT
ACL40 or 60thou over pistons. the original toyota/repco pistons will die.
extractors, 4-2-1, 37-43-50mm, 45cm-45cm-90cm-first resonator.
then put second resonator just before diff.
then put as large a chamber reverseflow muffler as you can fit. i used ESA brand, very cheap and very effective. ($25 res, $50 muf)
nikki is a webber copy no? what are the throttle and choke sizes?
the Fiat one i had was 34/34 (called 34DMS) with 24-27mm chokes..
i think 22-27 would be ideal tho.
i would try using the later curved runner inlet also... before i had used the straight runner...
then again.. i will never build another carby K motor. they will all be EFI.. difference is night and day.
hope this helps.
