projector headlight <> HID. what i want is superwhite headlights that provides light to the left and right front side of the car - kinda like a 'snowplow' look on the pavement Smile
my whole HID system came from my A4, the headlight on A4s can use halogen or HID bulbs but youre going need another set of driving lights to project light sideways

Most projector headlights have clear outer lenses, because it doesnt need it to refract/deflect the light. as for the modern clear headlights, they started using 'diamond cut' (LOL) reflector blocks(the silver plating) to refract the light. you can see this quite pronounced in my pic
technically the HID bulb is just a single filament bulb...and omnidirectional - meaning it doesnt block highbeam light - thats the job of the projector headlight assembly unlike when using halogen bulbs where high/low beams are different filaments and you pick which one to use. I modified my headlight assembly to block high beams so I can use HIDs without blinding oncoming traffic
althought the projector beam lens acts as a prism, most of the purple color comes from the tint in the bulb. mine has some blue-purple thinger inside while my OE bulbs has something yelowish. they are undoubtedly purple during startup and becomes whiter as it heats up
i'll try to get a pic of the nasty beam pattern once I put my car back together and find a suitable venue
later
