oldcorollas Forums Junkie Location: Kita-Ku, Sapporo, Japan Registered: January 2003	Re: Alternative Medicine Fri, 30 September 2005 04:33 as i understand it, Australia has developed some of the best burns treatment methods in the world. for major and acute life threatening issues, i would always turn to 'proper' medicine first. i see there are a few sides to alternative medicine. one, crackpots who are full of shit/faith (ie himalayan goat balls etc). two, faith healing that does work (the whole inner strength thing). three, "natural medicine" caused by chemicals in tese natural products that have not been picked up on by "normal" medicine for whatever reason, ie, not conclusively proven, not strong enough to be classed as a marketable drug, possible bad side-effects etc.. (anyone else tried 5HTP? available in NZ and US as an "alternative/herbal" supplement, but can have profound efects/bad side effects ) i don't know the stats, but i would be willing to suggest that the majority of useful drugs are of natural origin anyway, but have been subsequently modified or synthetically produced.
