ahh bugger... sorry to confirm your fears 
rusting is natures "one-up" on interference fit 
heh heh, and cover all glass.... amazing how thise little bits of metal eat into both car and house glass   
only other way i can think of is brute force with a decent hydraulic puller, but i doubt you could get enough purchase on the inner tube, or get enough force into it, without it being deformed and slipping anyway...
