Malcolms car has the engine upright (as does the TOSCO spec) to make enough room to fit the intake manifold and side draught carbies, otherwise they will hit the inner guard.
as for exhaust, you have about a 30cm cube to fit it all in.... unless you tile it up.
also, tilting up increases rate of oil return to the sump from the head...
