I'm planing on making my own reader/scan tool. I have a decent grasp of electronics (almost finished Electrical Engineering & IT Degree), and if I know the serial data format I feel pretty confident that I can get some good info. I'm not going to spend a lot of money on it that is for sure.
Things such as
*Inj Pulse width (can calc fuel economy, duty cycle etc)
*Ignition
*idle speed control
*O2 voltage
*inlet air temp
*map/afm voltage (can use this data to display / log boost etc)
*Engine Temp
*ECU fuel trims
*TPS
I was under the impression that VF1 was used for OBD, and links to ENG inside the car under the dash.
Some information I have atm
*14 to 20 data words (suspect v8's will have more outputs eg 2x O2's etc hence needing more output sequences).
*unidirectional i.e. ECU -> reader (cannot do reader -> ECU)
*100 baud (this is dang slow )
*typicaly 8 bits/word
*if TE2 is present the engine supports serial data output via OBD
What I really need is the data words, or the sequence of data words (i.e. is there start word, followed by the data in a set sequence or?)
OBD is very different to OBD-II, OBD-II does not interest me at all
Thanks for your time
Cheers
Wilbo
